The Mission of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - Shreveport's University Hospital is to serve in the

The fundamental philosophy of the Department of Nursing is to provide patients with optimal nursing care in a safe environment.

The patient's biophysical, biopsychological, environmental, self-care, educational and discharge needs are included in the delivery of nursing care with respect for the patient's rights regardless of race, color, creed, nationality, or economic status.

The department's ultimate goal is to return the patient to his or her family and community with restored maximum potential for health and productive capacity whenever possible; when this goal becomes impossible, nursing strives to maintain the patient's comfort and dignity until death.
